Project: Hazardous Waste Computerized Management System for the Mauritius Waste Management of POPs including PCB Waste

Client: POLYECO S.A.

Start of Operation: 2017

MOTION Hellas offered the design, software development, planning, implementation, testing and commissioning of a Computerized Management System for monitoring the collection and disposal of Hazardous Waste in the Republic of Mauritius.

The system developed for Polyeco Group.  Polyeco Group were awarded two projects by United Nations Development Program in Mauritius through international tendering procedures. The projects involved the provision of services for the remediation of soils contaminated with DDT and the destruction of POPs chemicals, DDT contaminated debris and PCB contaminated transformers. The main activities are:

  • Provision of equipment and consumables

  • Safe repackaging and labelling of the waste in accordance with ADR/IMDG requirements

  • Remediation of the area with DDT contaminated soil

  • Export of the waste to France in accordance with the specifications of the Basel Convention

  • Destruction of waste at EU licensed hazardous waste incineration facilities

The projects were implemented in close cooperation with UNDP Mauritius, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Local Government, Rodrigues and the Outer Islands in the Republic of Mauritius.

MOTION’s computerized system supports the whole material flow cycle, starting from the collection requests placed from the waste producers, following the sampling and waste composition analysis logging, to the collection of the waste, to temporary storage of it and lastly the dispatch to final disposal. In this context, the following domain entities – database files - will be implemented:

  • Waste Types (EKA Code, Description of waste, Hazardous Category)

  • Waste Producers

  • Waste Collection Locations (i.e. one or more addresses per producer)

  • Packaging Types

  • Company’s Personnel

  • Company’s Vehicles

  • Company’s Temporarily Storage Compartments

  • Waste Collection Requests Data

  • Waste Composition Analysis Results

  • Waste Collection and Transfer to temporary storage data

  • Waste’s Final Disposal data

The system will run under the web in order for everyone involved to have access to it, i.e. producers, ministry, company.
