Project: INTEGRATING CIM Systems, EMBEDDED DATA COLLECTION TERMINALS & BAR-CODING WITH ERP in the BED MATTRESSES PRODUCTION LINE

Client: GRECO STROM

Start of Operation: 2000

The unification of the boarders of the European community has as a result the economical and trade unification of the countries. The new challenge of Greek industry is their establishment in global market. Greek industry cannot and must not avoid global competitiveness. Recent surveys showed that most critical factors for world class competitiveness are in the areas of quality and customer service. Within customer service the top rated factors were reliable delivery times, improved customer relationships, and rapidly conformation of delivery times. Clearly these factors are of great importance and the proposed project significantly and effectively addresses them.

MOTION Hellas contracted the design, development, installation and commissioning of the following technical actions:

  • Quality Assurance system ISO 9001 and Environmental Assurance system ISO 14001

  • Computerized Production Planning System

  • Production Monitoring by using sensors and PDA terminals

  • Computerized Maintenance management System CMMS

  • Integration with the companies’ ERP system (SOFTONE)

The OPUS/PPS system is a user friendly Optimised Production Planning System which includes a set of functions that are needed to represent a valid simulation of reality of the Manufacturing process. It has IT tools for the production Management. The OPUS/PQC is a Statistical Quality Control Software package and represents a comprehensive and practical approach to quality control and the support of quality control elements of ISO 9000. It supports the TQM and offers tools for Management of the QA/QC documents and reports. The OPUS/PQC program provide the user with the most essential on-line and off-line SQC tools for quality control. The OPUS/SCADA is a new innovative low cost Hardware and software equipment for on-line and real time data collection from the production line including sensors and terminals for data collection and continuous on-line monitoring of the production line and quality control. The programme adopts the latest in Graphical User Interface (GUI) technology to ensure a harmonic and ergonomic user interface. It monitors each operation/set of operations to immediately locate actual problems when they occur and to locate potential problems before they arise to facilitate preventative corrective action.

From the experience in the use of the OPUS system and the Real Time Data acquisition from the production line, for over two years, in the GRECO STROM industry, it appears they help:

  • Reduce the product development cycle by at least 25%

  • Reduce engineering change handling time by at least 30%

  • Reduce the time to introduce new products

  • Improve Quality of products and services (TQM)
